Ajax: an old dog in new dog's clothing
It's amazing what an new name can do. No, this isn't a hoary old essay about Opal Fruits becoming Starburst or Royal Mail briefly becoming Consignia. No, this about something gaining a name when nobody really knew what to call it before. If you add together XHTML, CSS, Javascript and DOM manipulation, then stir in some XML and XSLT and a good sprinkling of XMLHttpRequest, you get something very powerful but even harder to describe. Something that had never really taken off.
