If you missed Harry Fuecks talking about AJAX at the UK PHP Conference 2006, you can check the presentation slides online titled AJAX @ localhost [PDF]. About 50 slides for a presentation I find it too much, but Harry covered many interesting topics from the history, critics, latency, .. etc. with demos that you can find online explaining very well the AJAX latency issues with script.acul.us autocomplete.
