New Opera 9.0 Technology Preview 2 for Windows
Opera released today new Preview release for windows of Opera 9.0 technology. The new version came certainly with many bug fixes but specialy a lot of very exciting new features such the Opera Widgets, BitTorrent support, ... and much more. Here is just some excerpts :
Opera Widgets – Widgets are small AJAX applications that provide specific functionality – like getting your favorite news, converting currency and so on.BitTorrent – BitTorrent has become one of the most popular file transfer protocols around. We built it right into the browser so you can download torrent files easily.
Improved content blocker – Just right click on a page and select “block content”. Any content not greyed out can be blocked with a click.
Improved pop-up blocker – We added more intelligence to help weed out even more pop-ups.
Site specific preferences – For those of you who want to control settings for specific pages. Want to accept some cookies and deny others?
The opera community website show a great documentation of the new Opera Widgets, how to install, create, remove .. etc, and also tutorial to create your first Hello world Widget, then how to animate, deploy .. etc. Opera also gives some quick tips for the Widget basics and some developer tips :
1. Do not reinvent the wheel: Use the libraries provided by Opera
2. Limit the size of your widgets
3. Keep your widgets simple
4. Write efficient code
5. Widgets should not stop working when the user is offline
