Javeline DeskRun, enables Web applications to run as native Windows programs
Javeline® BV today introduced DeskRun, public beta software that enables Web applications to run as a native Windows application. Available as a download beginning today, Javeline DeskRun allows developers to deliver their web application to the Windows desktop as a native application, with all functionality users expect from a Windows program such as an active system tray icon and access to the local file system. DeskRun works with all AJAX frameworks but will be a feature of Javeline FrameWork, available in june 2006.
"DeskRun brings a whole host of exciting features to application developers," said Ruben Daniels, Chief Technical Officer at Javeline. "Not only can business now simplify their application management by delivering the same application to all users over the web, it also allows developers to simply start creating some really cool applications."
DeskRun can provide full Windows program functionality, including installer / uninstaller, system tray access, custom icons, window transparancy and access to the local file system. Combining the best of both worlds, end-users now get to work with applications that feel like a native program, while having all the benefits of an online application.
Included with the Beta is the Flickr Desktop Search showcase, an Internet application that allows users to search the populair Flickr service straight from their desktop. You can find it in the /Demos folder with the DeskRun software.
Pricing and Availability
The public beta of Javeline DeskRun is available immediately as a download at www.javeline.org/modules/deskrun.php, and is preview software licensed for use for a limited time. DeskRun will be available free of charge for non-commercial use.
System Requirements
DeskRun requires a computer running Windows 2000 or a version of Windows XP.
