ThinkFree AJAX Office Reviewed
Slashdotted today a review of the ThinkFree online Office at ExtremeTech. An interesting AJAX Office providing a complete solution for creating documents, inserting your images from Flickr, sharing your documents in addition to a 1GB of Free storage. There is also plans to include Google and Yahoo for maps, and del.icio.us for shared bookmarking in the future.
Today ThinkFree releases a major update to its suite, upgrading free online storage space from 30MB to 1GB and adding a new lightweight AJAX-based collaboration feature and the ability to apply folksonomy to a document through "tagging" (very Web 2.0).ThinkFree uses both AJAX and Java. The company admits that AJAX is more portable in that it doesn't require a plug-in, but they contend that Java is needed to provide true Microsoft Office compatibility and functionality.
Yesterday I was watching a video for the new Office 2007, and there is really lot of new stuff and innovation related to the office itself and I think it will be very competitive since most of the AJAX office today focus on the AJAX aspect and online fonctionnalities to introcude their solutions, while it's more interesting to see the idea of the Office itself and the features that could increase more the productivity of the software. Anyway until Microsoft releases their Office who knows what will happen ?
