I've been working with Asterisk for many years, and one of the things that still hard to do for newbies is the configuration and management of the PBX software. Over the last years I've been using many tools mostly desktop-based, and just few of them are web-based. astGUIclient is one of these client available for both desktop and web, created to allow for the more advanced features of Asterisk to be used by anyone using even a single-line SIP phone. astGUIclient is written in PHP and available under GPL license.

astGUIclient is part of a suite of programs that are designed to interact with the Asterisk PBX Phone system at a client computer level to extend the functionality of your phone and system. The main GUI application, astGUIclient, is a set of PHP Web-based scripts utilizing Javascript and XMLHTTPRequest functions that work through a browser to give realtime information and functionality with nothing more than an Internet browser on the client computer.

The design is not even web 1.0, but looking at the fonctionnalities offered I personaly won't ask for more but a little redesign will be certainly greatl. AJAX here is used for example to refresh the active extension list, busy trunk list, busy extensions, live trunk menu and live local list for hangup/hijack menu, to send hangup, redirect for trunk/local, ... etc. An excellent tool for Asterisk users and developers, for more information : astguiclient.sourceforge.net
