CodeGear announced recently Delphi for PHP, Visual RAD IDE for the PHP developers, a new tool that might change the way how PHP developers conceive their web applications. We have contacted Tim Jarvis; Product Evangelist, Team Leader, Asia Pacific at CodeGear; to ask about their very new product which will be available very soon in March :
AJAX Magazine: Why do PHP developers need a visual RAD? After all for many years everyone was working without
Tim: It’s very easy not to miss something that you never had, prior to Delphi 1 Turbo Pascal programmers also didn’t have a visual RAD environment, look how Delphi 1 changed the face of Pascal programming forever, I foresee the same with Delphi for PHP.
AJAX Magazine: Can you tell more about AJAX support in Delphi for PHP?
AJAX Magazine: Why Qooxdoo and Xajax? Was it the best couple? Is it possible to support more AJAX frameworks in the future?
Tim: It certainly was a great fit, but we are not constrained to just that mechanism, the VCL for PHP is an open source framework, additional Ajax support will almost certainly be added very quickly.
AJAX Magazine: What about the integration of modern PHP frameworks?
Tim : We are working very hard to incorporate all the best of breed open source frameworks, obviously there are licensing considerations with proprietary frameworks, and again, because of the open source nature of the VCL for PHP component set, I am certain that many 3rd parties will add to it of their own volition.
Thank you Tim ! Also be sure to not miss the CodeRage 2007 virtual developer conference on March 12-16, 2007; there are three sessions planned for Delphi for PHP: introduction to the IDE, VCL and building applications using InterBase 2007.
Delphi for PHP will be available for an introductory price of $249 and $99 for Academic usage. For more information:
